Del Mar, located just north of Torrey Pines State
Beach and approximately 30 minutes north from downtown
San Diego, features a 2 1/2 mile stretch of white sandy
beaches. Del Mar, which is known to locals as, “Where
the Surf meets the Turf,” is home to the world famous
horseracing at the Del Mar racetrack from July –
September at the San Diego fairgrounds. Del Mar is
popular for the many activities available and its close
proximity to Legoland, Sea World and The World Famous
San Diego Zoo.
Mission Bay is the place to go for all your aquatic
sports such as water skiing, riding Jet skis, kayaking,
wind surfing, sailing, boating and much more! Go to the
San Diego Sportscenter where you can rent all the
equipment you will need for water sports as well as
instruction. Enjoy 27 miles of scenic pathways to walk,
jog and bike around the bay with several picnic and
barbecues areas and great sandy beaches for family fun!
Mission Beach is a peninsula that spans
nearly 3 miles of ocean between Mission Bay to the east
and Pacific Beach to the north. It is popular for its
wide sandy beaches, miles of boardwalk and great surf.
There are three different areas referred to in Mission
Beach: North Mission Beach, South Mission Beach and
Mission Beach. Although there are no official
boundaries, North Mission is generally located north of
El Carmel Place. South Mission is generally located
south of San Fernando Place and Mission Beach is located
in between the two. Mission Beach is the home of Belmont
Park, which features the historic all wood “Giant
Dipper” roller coaster, known to locals as “The
Coaster.” Other popular attractions include an indoor
Olympic sized heated pool, arcade which has a
merry-go-round, bumper boats, and arcade games and the
Wave House were you can surf the man-made waves, enjoy
the outdoor bar, open-air barbecue restaurant, fire pits
and hammocks. The boardwalk at Mission Beach offers some
of the best people watching in all of San Diego! Enjoy
Jogging, biking, roller bladeing, or walking on the
miles of boardwalk that stretch from Mission Beach up to
Pacific Beach.
Pacific Beach or as the locals refer to this area as “PB,”
is located just north of Mission Beach. Popular for its
white sandy beaches, designated surfing spots, fire
rings for bonfires, restaurants and night life. Pacific
Beach is home to the landmark Crystal Pier. It is open
to the public for fishing during daylight hours and is a
popular spot for watching the surfers or catching a
spectacular sunset. Pacific Beach's boutique shopping
district features hundreds of choices for shopping with
several local brand name favorites and plenty of salons
and spa's to pamper yourself! This area boasts over one
hundred and fifty quality restaurants and cafes. Within
minutes to some of San Diego’s most popular attractions
including Sea World, The World Famous San Diego Zoo, La
Jolla, Balboa Park, Golf Courses, Downtown and much
more!
La Jolla Cove, located at 1100 Coast
Boulevard, is a very small beach that is tucked between
adjacent sand cliffs. It is one of the most photographed
beaches in all of Southern California. The water
visibility can exceed 30 feet at the Cove making this a
great spot for snorkeling and scuba divers. The Cove
lies within the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park
Ecological Reserve, which helps to ensure that marine
life remains plentiful. Or you can sit back and watch
the seals’ bath and play in the sun.
